Valentine's Day Recap

So every once in awhile I come up with an idea that even surprises myself. I have been wanting to check out the Dallas Symphony for some time now and was thinking the we might go during Easter when they would be performing Handel's, Messiah. But I decided that going during Valentine's Day would be fun and different, something we had never done before. For any guy that is looking for a unique date for your wife or girlfriend the Dallas Symphony is a great place to start. No, seriously all you have to do is go to their webpage, dallassymphony.com and they take care of the rest. A tab on their web site is "Plan Your Visit" go to that tab and you can find restaurants around the Symphony, make a reservation, buy tickets, and even get a quick Symphony 101 so you know kinda what to expect.

Any way for the weekend of Valentine's Day the Symphony was performing love songs from German and Russian composers. Before that I had reserved a table at a restaurant, Arcodoro&Pomodoro, an Italian restaurant near the Symphony. As you know we went to Italy last summer with my family and the experience was amazing. This restaurant caught my eye because the owner is from Italy. I was hoping it would bring us back to Italia and it did! The ambiance and service were great. And the food tasted just like Italy, it almost took me back, or maybe that was the wine?

We made it to the Symphony and to our seats. For those of you who don't know what happens here is a quick run down. The orchestra comes out and warms up, followed by the concertmaster (or first violin) he/she will bow and receive an applause then tune the rest of the orchestra. Then the conductor comes out takes a bow, receives an applause and gets the orchestra ready to play. The conductor walks out and comes back on stage after every performance as well as acknowledges the concertmaster. The performances were great, it is very hard to describe. Some people may not like classical music but this was different. Hearing the music live and in a place like the Meyerson is breathtaking. The quality of the sound and emotion are palpable.

After the performance it was time for dessert and I had a wonderful plan for the end of the night. But it was close to 12:00am and we were both extremely tired, so in keeping with the romantic theme of the night Holly decided what she really wanted was McDonald's ice cream!!! So our night finished with a quick drive through. Overall the night was a great success and you should really check out Arcodoro&Pomodoro as well as the Dallas Symphony!
